My uncle, Joseph Fels, just got an Instagram. He is sixty-one years old, somewhat set in his ways, and has made fun of social media for years. If his account on Instagram is not a sign of changing times, then I do not know what is. He even made a post along the lines of, “I can see why so many people are on social media.” Social media, one of the many forms of internet marketing, has become an integral part of our lives. As such, it makes sense that so many companies are trying to follow online marketing trends to stay up to date. To be sure, this niche market is fairly new, so it is imperative for the industry to capitalize in the beginning stages. Our continued reliance on internet marketing and social media have created numerous companies, jobs, and even scholarship opportunities!

There are various trends in Internet Marketing for 2017 that aim to help both user and distributer. In large part, this will be made possible by using even more Big Data. Big data, according to smartinsights.com, includes “market and customer insight and predictive analytics.” This is an absolute boon for the online marketing industry. Essentially, it provides information on what consumers want—what they actually want to see advertised to them while they are surfing the web or on social media apps like Instagram. In turn, the crucial information gathered from Big Data will be applied to other forms of online marketing such as mobile advertising, site development, and apps.

Mobile marketing has continued to be one of the most prominent trends in internet marketing in recent years. However, so many consumers still prefer to purchase items through computers because online app purchasing is still so new. Personally, I know that I rarely purchase items via mobile apps. For instance, last week I purchased a desk for my mother after receiving a lot of information via mobile marketing. Ultimately, I decided to purchase the desk on our home computer. As  mentioned earlier, I saw numerous desk advertisements on my phone while I was searching for a suitable desk for my mother. I saw all of these advertisements while on either Facebook or Instagram. While some social media (primarily Facebook and Twitter in western markets) has seen some decline, others like Snapchat, Instagram, and Pinterest continue to see steady growth. In turn, businesses have realized how their success will depend on adapting to this age of social media, especially when marketing to younger audiences.

Increased user experiences have even allowed my friend Eli to earn money by traveling all over the world. He has attained so many followers due to his engaging, and at times surreal, experiences. Through his posts, I feel like I am able to experience a different part of the world and learn about its people and culture for free. Most will never be able to travel to Tokyo, but may learn of its cuisine and architecture just by following my friend. My life is better off because Eli started this Instagram account. He rewarded and able to afford his travels because he receives money from companies that want him to advertise their products and services.

Eli chose to use Instagram to document his travels because Intagram best serves his advertising needs. With several social media platforms with differing capabilities, competition is tough, and users need to weigh all the pros and cons of differing opportunites. Furthermore, several businesses are choosing to focus their advertising efforts on one social media account. This will result in continued improvement for both the user and distributor of such content. In recent years, Snapchat and Intagram are amongst the leading platforms that see steady growth and favorable ratings. This may explain all the advertisements I see on my Instagram and Snapchat accounts; however, I am grateful because these advertisements allowed me to find the perfect desk for my mother.

In turn, AMP expects to see drastic improvement in user experience which will lead to better online communication. As of right now, AMP is used primarily by publishers, but businesses could greatly benefit by implementing this system into their business model by incorporating it into their blogs and online news.
